General Aim of Black Body Radiation Simulation

  •  To study the black body radiation in blackbody physics.
  • To verify Wien’s displacement law and the inverse square law.

Method of Black Body Radiation Simulation

Heated Filament Method through Black Body Radiation Simulation.

Learning Objectives (ILOs)

  • By the end of black body radiation experiment, students will be able to:

  • Verify the fourth law of radiation through blackbody spectrum simulation.
  • Generate Planck’s curves for Stefan–Boltzmann lamp at different temperatures and verify Wien’s law in a blackbody radiation lab.
  • Verify the inverse square law for electromagnetic (EM) radiation using thermal radiation experiment.

Theoretical Background / Context

  •  The intensity of radiation from a black body varies with the wavelength of the emitted radiation, which depends on the temperature of the blackbody
  • This relationship is part of the black body radiation explanation, showing how hotter bodies emit radiation at shorter wavelengths and higher intensities.
  • Also, the radiation emitted depends inversely on the square of the distance from the black body

Principle of Work

In the black body radiation simulation:

  • By measuring the emitted radiation from a heated filament, as a function of the temperature of the filament, wavelength of the emitted radiation and the distance from the black body
  • We can verify the fourth law of radiation, generates Planck’s curves at a different temperature, and the inverse square law for EM radiation through the Stefan Boltzmann law experiment.
